A report from a space observer:
analysis of the activation of the "Otherworld" project archive

Some places don't store memories. They store possibilities.

Światło zna wybór.
Milczy ten, kto wszystko wie.
Czas budzi ślady.

Start of Recording [Archive]

The professor stared at the wall that lit up, and I couldn't take my eyes off the thin lines of light that spread across the wood like living roots. It didn't look like a screen or a hologram. It was more like an organism that had just woken up.

No one in the room spoke.

Not because we ran out of words.

We just all had the impression that every sentence we said could be interrupted by something extremely delicate.

After a few seconds, the light formed a network of connected points. Each of them pulsated with a different rhythm.

Some of them were extinguished.

Others flashed brighter and brighter.

Hypothesis Nine: The Archive Doesn't Record the Past

The professor was the first to break the silence.

"I think it's a map.

I shook my head.

"No.

He looked at me questioningly.

"Maps show places. It shows decisions.

Only then did I notice that when one of the present couples moved closer to each other, one of the points shone brighter. When someone moved the chair back and took a step back, another point immediately dimmed.

It was not a record of events.

The archive reacted to our choices.

It did not store memories.

Possibilities.

Experiment

I didn't say anything.

I just took a step towards the professor.

New lines immediately appeared on the wall.

The professor noticed this almost simultaneously.

"It is watching us.

"No.

I smiled slightly.

"It is counting us.

I've been observing people all my life.

I've never met anyone who watches relationships before.

Not people.

Relationships.

That was the fundamental difference.

A new discovery

One of the other Mages walked over to the wall.

"Do you see that?"

Among dozens of pulsating points, there was one completely motionless.

Black.

As if the light was passing him by with premeditation.

The observer turned noticeably pale.

"He shouldn't be active...

"What is it?" The professor asked.

The observer was silent for a long time.

"This is the couple who finished the experiment.

The room became even quieter.

"I mean... she ran away?" The professor asked.

"No.

The observer lowered his gaze.

"They found a way out.

Critical information

I had never heard so much uncertainty in his voice before.

This worried me more than all the Early Updates.

People are often afraid of what they do not understand.

The observer was afraid of something he understood perfectly.

That meant the threat was real.

I looked at the wall again.

The black spot began to pulse very slowly.

Once.

The second.

The third.

Then another one appeared next to him.

Exactly in the place that suits our couple.

The professor probably hasn't noticed it yet.

I already knew.

The archive does not show what happened.

It shows what is just starting to change.

Final note

At the same moment, all the lines of light went out.

The room was plunged into darkness.

After a few seconds, we heard a calm, female voice.

It did not come from the speakers.

It did not belong to any person standing next to it.

It sounded as if the building itself was speaking.

"The ninth variant has reached the level of synchronization.

The last stage is launched.

The professor instinctively found my hand.

And for the first time since the beginning of the experiment, I thought that maybe the creators of the project... are no longer watching us at all.

Perhaps they have been dead for a very long time.
